Format created by David Innes and Rob Lloyd.
An entirely improvised show based on that famous space-and-time travelling alien in his trusty blue box. The way the show works is that the improvisers ask for inspiration from the audience. Then, they pitch three possible sci fi story ideas back to the crowd. The audience then votes for which story they want to see played out. New Doctors, companions, monsters and adventures every night! |

BACKGROUND
Time Lord was first performed as part of the 2012 Season of shows for the genre-improv troupe The Impro Box. This show was directed by Innes and staged at Club Voltaire in North Melbourne. The show's popularity resulted in a second season performed during the 50th Anniversary year of Doctor Who in 2013. Since then, it has been performed at The Lords of Time convention in Melbourne and as part of the New Zealand Improv Festival (NZIF). The original format had one writer who would narrate the story based on an idea given by the audience. The Doctor and companion would be chosen prior to the show. These seasons featured a number of different Doctors and companions, regeneration sequences and even a TARDIS console prop built by Lachlan Fleming. In the second season, the show also adapted other Impro formats and Who-ified them.
The show had been rested since 2013 and then it was resurrected in 2022 with a new cast and new location: The Butterfly Club. One of the decisions that was made was to keep the same cast performing every night. The idea of having one possible Doctor and one possible Writer for each show was also dropped. Three potential writers and three potential Doctors are organised beforehand. The three potential writers pitch their story idea to the crowd. Then the successful writer, who is assigned a particular Doctor, narrates the adventure.

REVIEWS:
"My highlight of the night though was just how well this cast worked together ... Of course the storyline at hand is going to change every night that Time Lord is performed and the chances of the plot-line that I saw repeating is slim but I have confidence that no matter what night you turn up to see Time Lord you are going to be impressed by the work that the cast and writer serves up. Whether you are a fan of a certain time-travelling doctor or a newbie when it comes to this universe you are going to be into a night of laughs, giggles and pure talent." - Subculture Media. "I enjoyed the production; its wit and the local referencing was totally relatable to the situations and story development. The performance is satisfying, with some typical “Who” referencing that brings about familiarity. The balance is very clever, so if you are not a huge fan of Dr Who you will still understand what it’s all about." - Theatre Matters. |
